Act Like You Know Him
For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.
Hebrews 6:4-6 NKJV
This week, the Lord has truly been showing me that people who know Him truly act differently. It is very obvious when someone has had an experience with the Holy Spirit because they do not do the things they used to. If they used to curse, their language is pure. Where they once would be stingy, they give freely, and so on and so forth.
The Bible tells us that as well. Saints act like we know Him. By act, I do not mean performance, but that our behavior, our mindset, our outlook on life is different because we have the Holy Spirit. We should not be confused for people who are devoid of Christ
Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God. In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.
1 John 3:7-10 NKJV
11 Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He who does good is of God, [e]but he who does evil has not seen God.
3 John 1: 11 NKJV
When I came across these scriptures, I was shocked! Hebrews already tells us that if we truly know the Lord and had an experience with the Holy Spirit, we should not be able to fall away. But then 1 John and 3 John again reiterate the point because they tell us about practicing righteousness and that if we do evil, it is clear that we do not belong to God. I don’t know about you, but I want to belong to God, I want to be kept by God, and I want to live in a way that ministers to people around me
I have recently had such a burden in my heart about doing the right thing, even when it’s unpopular. When I meet people who do not know the Lord, and listen to them speak, it is so clear that they do not have the Holy Spirit guiding them. That is not said with judgment, but in truth - and it saddens me. The world we live in, we moreso see that godliness is being likened to evil (Isaiah 5:20, 2 Timothy 3). But even still, all of us who do know Christ are to act, behave, live as though we know Him and have been touched by the Holy Spirit. Friends, sometimes when someone encounters us, that is the only opportunity they will have to see Jesus and righteousness in person. We must live every moment using it to the glory of God, even in something small as our behavior. So we need to always act like we know God and be a positive and true ambassador for Christ (2 Corinthians 5: 20). When we act in this way, we honor the Lord and can be ministers of the Gospel.
And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
Colossians 3:17 NKJV
Let’s pray:
Lord, I ask forgiveness of my sins. Help me to exude godly character and behaviors that show that I know you and have the Holy Spirit dwelling in me. Help me Lord to not be tempted to do wickedness, but to live in righteousness and rightstanding with you. Create in me a clean heart, and show me the areas in which I can be a better disciple. Thank you Lord for the opportunity to change my ways. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
