But a Simple Thing to the Lord

“This is but a simple thing in the sight of the Lord; He will also hand over the Moabites to you”

 II Kings 3:18

What a beautiful thing it is to know that we serve an all powerful God and there is truly nothing too difficult for Him. Recently, the Lord reminded me of this as I was reading 2 Kings chapter 3. For context, 3 kings (Jehoram, King of Israel, Jehoshaphat, King of Judah, and the King of Edom) go to face Mesha, the King of Moab, who has decided to rebel against the King of Israel.

‭‭II Kings‬ ‭3‬:‭5‬-‭9‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

But it happened, when Ahab died, that the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel. So King Jehoram went out of Samaria at that time and mustered all Israel. Then he went and sent to Jehoshaphat king of Judah, saying, “The king of Moab has rebelled against me. Will you go with me to fight against Moab?” And he said, “I will go up; I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.” Then he said, “Which way shall we go up?” And he answered, “By way of the Wilderness of Edom.” So the king of Israel went with the king of Judah and the king of Edom, and they marched on that roundabout route seven days; and there was no water for the army, nor for the animals that followed them.”

As you see, they run into a little problem. As they marched, they realized that there was no water for the army, nor the animals. Panicked and anxious, they immediately start thinking the worst; but little did they know that their need was but a simple thing for the Lord to do. Jehoshaphat then suggests that they go and inquire of Elisha, a true prophet of the Lord.

‭‭II Kings‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬-‭18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“And he said, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Make this valley full of ditches.’ For thus says the Lord: ‘You shall not see wind, nor shall you see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, so that you, your cattle, and your animals may drink.’ And this is a simple matter in the sight of the Lord; He will also deliver the Moabites into your hand.”

‭‭II Kings‬ ‭3‬:‭20‬ ‭AMP‬‬

“It happened in the morning, when the sacrifice was offered, that suddenly water came [miraculously] from the area of Edom, and the country was filled with water.”

So not only did the Lord provide water for their army and their cattle, but He also handed their enemies over to them…hallelujah! What a beautiful reminder that the simple things that we stress about are but a simple matter in the sight of the Lord. In fact, the Bible tells us to be anxious for NOTHING!

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭6‬-‭7‬ ‭AMP‬‬

“Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God. And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours]. [John 14:27]”

The fact of the matter is, the things that we make to be a big deal are but a simple matter in the sight of the Lord. Is there anything too hard for our God?

‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭32‬:‭26‬-‭27‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying, “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?”

Be encouraged and go in peace, beloved.
