I’ll Have the Bread of Life

Imagine for just a moment that you are sitting at a restaurant, staring at the plethora of options on a menu. Ultimately, satisfaction is your goal, but with so many options to choose from, what may seem easy becomes a tough decision. Time is ticking and your stomach growls at the examination of each option, but you know that a decision has to be made. What will provide the guaranteed satisfaction you’re looking for? It’s the Bread of Life, the Word of God.

Life presents itself with so many options when we are “hungry”. And with that hunger, the enemy will always tempt us with that of no real sustenance. As you look at this menu, you see sex, drugs, idolatry, witchcraft, false religion, even relationships as viable options for nourishment, but know that these options are guaranteed to leave you DISSATISFIED. However as believers, by the help of the Holy Spirit, we know that the only meal worth ordering is the bread of life, the Word of God. In examining John 6:41-59, Jesus reminds us that He is the “bread of life” (6:48), “the bread which comes down from heaven” (6:51)(NKJV), the only option on the menu that will leave us full.

Satan tries to tempt our Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ too. However, as the perfect example He is, He still chose the “bread of life” in the face of temptation. Let’s look at Matthew 4:1-10 (KJV):

4 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.

3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

We chase the cars, clothes, and cares of this world and miss the one thing that will fill the void in our hearts. We leave the “restaurant” upset and still hungry because we chose the wrong entrée . Beloved, choose Jesus, the bread of life. When we’re hungry, the Word of God is the sustenance that you need, not the things of this world. Jesus says, “As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me” (John 6:57) (NKJV) (emphasis added).

As you go about your week, remember that the bread of life, Jesus and His Word, is the only sustenance you need. Any other option is NOT worth it.

Will you join me in prayer?

Dear Lord,

Thank you so much for being  ALL that I need. Your Word says that You are the way, the truth, and the life, and I repent for turning to anything that does not look like You. Thank you for forgiving me. As I go about this week, please help me to feed off of You and Your Word, not the things of this world for the satisfaction of my flesh. I love You and thank You for continuously loving me.

In Jesus’ name I pray,

Amen.
