Noise
Recently, I had a conversation with a family member that left me feeling overwhelmed. The conversation centered on my future. Ultimately, the conversation ended with both sides stating their thoughts. I made it clear that the Lord’s will for my life was the most important thing to me. But getting out of that conversation, I felt bothered. It felt like I was surrounded by a bunch of noise that just seemed like a big distraction from what the Lord was calling me to do. I began talking to a brother in Christ, and he encouraged me to cast my anxiety upon the Lord. As I sought the Lord, He began to reveal much.
Mark 5:35-43 (NKJV)
35 While He (Jesus) was still speaking, some came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house who said, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?”
36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not be afraid; only believe.” 37 And He permitted no one to follow Him except Peter, James, and John, the brother of James. 38 Then He came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and saw a tumult and those who wept and wailed loudly. 39 When He came in, He said to them, “Why make this commotion and weep? The child is not dead, but sleeping.”
40 And they ridiculed Him. But when He had put them all outside, He took the father and the mother of the child, and those who were with Him, and entered where the child was lying. 41 Then He took the child by the hand, and said to her, “Talitha, cumi,” which is translated, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” 42 Immediately the girl arose and walked, for she was twelve years of age. And they were overcome with great amazement. 43 But He commanded them strictly that no one should know it, and said that something should be given her to eat.
In the Scriptures, Jesus arrives at the ruler of the synagogue's house and says to the crowd, the child is not dead, only sleeping (Mark 5:39). In Mark 5:28, the crowd is wailing over the little girl; they are described as making a “tumult”. According to Merriam-Webster, a tumult is a noun that denotes confusing noise, especially caused by a mass of people. In their doubt and sheer pride, the crowd of mourners negated the sovereignty and deity of Jesus. But before Jesus conducts the miracle of healing the little girl, Jesus puts out the mourners who scoffed. Then Jesus performs the miracle with only the little girl’s parents and 3 of His disciples in attendance.
The noise from the crowd was contrary to God’s nature. The mourners were making confusing, chaotic, despairing noise that served as a distraction! Their words were probably planting seeds of doubt and hopelessness into the little girl’s parents. Essentially, the mourners tried to stop the move of God by acting as a hindrance so that this family could not receive a much-needed healing. When Jesus came into the room, He established His authority over that family’s situation. Jesus combated their seeds of doubt, saying, “She is not dead, only sleeping.” Notice, when Jesus stepped into the room, He immediately combated the mourners’ doubt. The mourners were put out, and the move of God happened anyway! The Lord is able!
The enemy tried to use tumult as a distraction to hinder the move of God; however, there is no distraction or power of the enemy that can overcome the Lord. The works of darkness must bow and submit to the Lord’s sovereignty and to His authority! So, after reading the story about Jesus healing the Little girl, I realized that the little girl was me. Jesus put out the tumult in my life and brought me into a place of peace where I can hear His voice and experience His presence. The Lord gave me greater insight into His power and authority. He is showing me who He is. Truly, He is a deliverer! The Lord has given me peace and reassurance. By His power, distractions are being removed from my life so that I may hear Him without interference.
So Beloved, be of good cheer! If you are in a situation or around people who are acting as a hindrance to your walk, ask the Lord for wisdom in how to properly deal with your situation. The Lord showed me He is more than able. And I know He yearns to do the same for you!
