Remember The Lord

A few days ago, I was in deep prayer. Truthfully speaking, I wasn’t feeling my best mentally, and I knew I had to relinquish my problems to the Lord. Three words came to my mind: 'Remember the Lord.'

The following day, while I was reading, Moses, Joshua, King David, and King Solomon came to mind. Each of these men were  great leaders who shared a common message: they urged the people to remember the Lord and  to walk in His ordinances. That same message can be applied to our very own lives today.

Moses:

2 And you shall remember the Lord your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not. 3 So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord. 4 Your garments did not wear out on you, nor did your foot swell these forty years. 5 You should know in your heart that as a man chastens his son, so the Lord your God chastens you. 6 Therefore you shall keep the commandments of the Lord your God, to walk in His ways and to fear Him. (Deuteronomy 8:2-6 NKJV).

Joshua:

4 And now the Lord your God has given rest to your brethren, as He promised them; now therefore, return and go to your tents and to the land of your possession, which Moses the servant of the Lord gave you on the other side of the Jordan. 5 But take careful heed to do the commandment of the law which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, to love the Lord your God, to walk in all of His ways, to keep His commandments, to hold fast to Him, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul.” (Joshua 22:4-5 NKJV)

David:

2 I go the way of all the earth; be strong, therefore, and prove yourself of a man. 3 And keep the charge of the Lord your God: to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His judgments, and His testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn; 4 that the Lord may fulfill His word which He spoke concerning me, saying, ‘If your sons take heed to their way, to walk before Me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul,’ He said, ‘you shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.’ (1 Kings 2:2-4 NKJV).

Solomon:

1 Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the difficult days come, and the years draw near when you say, “I have no pleasure in them”; 2 while the sun and the light, the moon and the stars, are not darkened, and the clouds do not return after the rain; (Ecclesiastes 12:1-2 NKJV).

To remember the Lord is to be mindful of Him which allows us to follow Him, walk in His ways, and keep His commands and ordinances. We must seek His face daily and meditate upon His word day and night. To forget the Lord is to be disobedient, always looking to the left or the right, following after something that seems pleasing, and having no form of communion with the Lord.

In Jeremiah chapter 2, the Lord chastens His people for forgetting Him. “31 O generation, see the word of the Lord! Have I been a wilderness to Israel, Or a land of darkness? Why do my people say, ‘We are lords; we will come no more to You’? 32 Can a virgin forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? Yet My people have forgotten Me days without number.” (Jeremiah 2:31-32 NKJV).

We often let life distract us to the point where we lose focus on what the Lord has called us to do. In other instances, we allow trials to consume us that we forget we serve a living God who will help us through adversity. Without our mind being on the Lord, we find ourselves being lost.

I believe the state of this world is due to our forgetfulness of God. We must seek Him with all of our hearts and soul. We must humble ourselves, pray, seek His face, and turn from our wicked ways, then He will hear from heaven, forgive our sins, and heal our land (2 Chronicles 7:14). I urge you, brothers and sisters, to remember the Lord in the morning, throughout your day, and before you go to bed at night.

Go in peace.
