Set Your Mind
Col 3:2-3
Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
This season of my life is marked by changes, and they are happening fast. As I am going through this transitional period in my life, I’ve been meditating on Col 3:2 “Set your mind on things above, and not things on the earth”. This verse has been instrumental in helping to shape my thoughts as I move forward in my relationship with Christ. A previous Bible Study plan I read likened our minds to thermostats. As one sets a thermostat, the environment in our house changes. Well, the same holds true for our minds! When we set our minds to things above and not things of this world, our perspective, attitude, and how we live change, too!
The word “to set” translates to phroneó, meaning to exercise the mind, to have a thought or opinion, to have understanding. I realized a new way of thinking was essential to cultivate my walk with the Lord. Old ways of thinking, futile and anxious thoughts, weighed me down and took my focus off the Cross. Only focusing my thoughts on my life’s problems left me vulnerable to the attacks of the enemy. So, just like a thermostat, I chose to set my thoughts on the Lord’s word and promises. Steadily, I saw how the Lord fought my battles.
So, Col 3:2 serves as a reminder. We Believers, are to lock in throughout our journey with the Lord, and especially when we are going through transitions marked by great change. Set your mind on the things of God; He will fight our battles for us if only we let Him. So, be still beloved and know that He is God (Psa 46:10).
Go in peace!
