A Mindful God

Psalm 8:4 says, “What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him?”

That word mindful is the Hebrew word zakar, which means to remember, to be recognized, and to make mention. The word visit is the Hebrew word paqad, meaning to attend to and to care for.

King David was so humbled that He could not fathom how a God so great could not only recognize, remember, and make mention of him, but that He would also go a step further to care for and attend to HIS (David’s) INDIVIDUAL needs.

Imagine that. This is the same God, because we know He can not change (Malachi 3:6). Let’s look at some other scriptures that drive home The Lord’s mindfulness and care for us:

Luke 12:7 (NKJV)— “But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.”

Matthew 6:25-26 (NKJV)— 25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

1 Peter 1:18-19 (NKJV)—17 And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear; 18 knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

Let’s stay here in 1 Peter for a second. Peter is telling us that we are to conduct ourselves in a manner that shows our value. And how do we know that we have value? Because, we were not redeemed by corruptible things, but by the precious, blameless, blood of the Lamb of God.

The Lord is not mindful without cause. He is mindful of us so we can be mindful of Him

1 Peter 2:9 says, “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”

I’ll end with this last scripture to show you how mindful He is. The Apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthians 9:22  “To the weak (wanting in discernment) I have become weak (wanting in discernment) that I might win the weak and the over scrupulous. I have [in short] become all things to all men, that I might by all means (at all costs and in any and every way) save some [by winning them to faith in Jesus Christ].”

Upon reading this, The Lord asked me a rhetorical question, Where do you think Paul got this attitude from?

See, God did this first through Jesus Christ. He became sin for us (2 Corinthians 5:21) since we were the ones who sinned. He came in the likeness of men, just as we are (Philippians 2:6-8).

Friends, I beg of you, do not take the Lord’s mindfulness for granted. Yes, we are saved through grace by faith and not works, so that no man can boast. But, His kindness should light a fire in the part of us that was made in His image and His Likeness, so we can live for Him and do His will.

Remember, you have value in The Lord’s eyes, so that others may see their value in His eye. Allow His mindfulness to move you to move others.
