Comfort and Security in the Lord
As a new mom, I am having the joy of watching my child grow and hit different developmental stages. More recently, my child has been in the phase of wanting more maternal nurturing; he could be with his dad or his grandparents, and he will be upset until I come and hold him. Even though he feels safe with everyone else, and knows them well, it’s something specific about me as his mother that brings him a feeling of security.
Our relationship with our Father in Heaven is similar. Even if we go looking for comfort in peace and other areas in life, we will always find that there’s a void because it’s not the same security, peace, and comfort that only the Lord can provide.
1 Timothy 6:17 AMP
17 As for the rich in this present world, instruct them not to be conceited and arrogant, nor to set their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly and ceaselessly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.
Philippians 4:19 AMP
And my God will liberally supply (fill until full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
2 Corinthians 9:8 AMP
And God is able to make all grace [every favor and earthly blessing] come in abundance to you, so that you may always [under all circumstances, regardless of the need] have complete sufficiency in everything [being completely self-sufficient in Him], and have an abundance for every good work and act of charity.
John 1:12-13 AMP
12 But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the right [the authority, the privilege] to become children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name— 13 who were born, not of blood [natural conception], nor of the will of the flesh [physical impulse], nor of the will of man [that of a natural father], but of God [that is, a divine and supernatural birth—they are born of God—spiritually transformed, renewed, sanctified].
The scriptures above demonstrate that the things of this world, such as money or other things do not compare to the unconditional love in the supplying of our needs from the Lord. The verses in John show us how much our Father loves us as His children; that if we receive Him, He receives us, even though He is not our biological father. While it would seem He has no obligation to us through biology, how beautiful is it that His Love transcends DNA. And because of that, then we know that the promises in Philippians and Corinthians about Him supplying everything that we need, spiritual or natural, is true.
So the next time you find yourself, looking for comfort in the security of worldly things, whether that’s another person, substances, or any other fleeting thing (1 John 2:15-17), remember that the ultimate security and comfort in this world comes from above:
James 1:17 NKJV
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.
So I leave this scripture with you to ponder and pray in your personal time:
Psalm 32:7 AMP
You are my hiding place; You, Lord, protect me from trouble;
You surround me with songs and shouts of deliverance. Selah.
