I, Wisdom, Was There

Before creation, wisdom already existed

Proverbs 8:23-27 Amplified Bible

23

“From everlasting I was established and ordained,

From the beginning, before the earth existed, [I, godly wisdom, existed].

24

“When there were no ocean depths I was born,

When there were no fountains and springs overflowing with water.

25

“Before the mountains were settled,

Before the hills, I was born;

26

While He had not yet made the earth and the fields,

Or the first of the dust of the earth.

27

“When He established the heavens, I [Wisdom] was there;

When He drew a circle upon the face of the deep,

Creation in itself is evidence of the Lord’s wisdom (Proverbs 3:19-29, Psalm 104:24). Wisdom, embodied by Christ Jesus, was the cornerstone of creation as Jesus is the chief cornerstone (Ephesians 2:19-20). A chief cornerstone is the first and most important foundation stone in a building, setting the alignment and reference for the entire structure. In order for us to be partakers of the very wisdom that we were created by, we must submit to the Lord and deeply revere Him.

Proverbs 9:10

Amplified Bible

10

The [reverent] fear of the Lord [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the beginning and the preeminent part of wisdom [its starting point and its essence],

And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding and spiritual insight.

In the book of Genesis, the Lord gave Adam the command to not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

Genesis 2:16-17

Amplified Bible

16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may freely (unconditionally) eat [the fruit] from every tree of the garden; 17 but [only] from the tree of the knowledge (recognition) of good and evil you shall not eat, otherwise on the day that you eat from it, you shall most certainly [a]die [because of your disobedience].”

Though the Lord walked with Adam and Eve, Eve was naive. In Proverbs 14:15, it says that the naive or inexperienced person [is easily misled and] believes every word he hears. As a result of her naivety, Eve was easily misled by the serpent in Genesis 3.

Genesis 3:4-6

Amplified Bible

4 But the serpent said to the woman, “You certainly will not die! 5 For God knows that on the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened [that is, you will have greater awareness], and you will be like God, knowing [the difference between] good and evil.” 6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was delightful to look at, and a tree to be desired in order to make one wise and insightful, she took some of its fruit and ate it; and she also gave some to her husband [a]with her, and he ate.

Ironically, the serpent deceived Eve in her desire to be wiser. As demonstrated in proverbs, Wisdom was with her all along yet she did not submit to Him, as demonstrated by her disobedience. Eve did not need to eat from the tree in order to have wisdom and insight. If you seek skillful and Godly wisdom then you will understand the fear of the Lord for the Lord GIVES wisdom. The Lord does not “hide” wisdom, that is where Eve was deceived. She did not go to Him for wisdom but instead went around Him to obtain it and fell short of the glory of God.

Why do we default to our own devices and depend on ourselves when our creator is a God of infinite wisdom that does not withhold from us without a cause? The wisdom of the world is foolishness before God. Let us not be like Eve, missing what is directly in front of us.
