Fixing Our Gaze
Have you ever found yourself so focused on something that doesn’t even matter? Well, let me tell you about this interaction I had at my job.
While at work, I see this woman out of my peripheral vision, slowly walking up with her shopping cart.
“Hello!”, I said to her.
She waited a moment before responding. I noticed her gaze was fixed on this shelf with merchandise. I continued the task at hand while waiting for her to respond.
Upon breaking her gaze, she cordially greeted me back, but as we began talking, she began to say to me something along the lines of:
“Sometimes we’re so focused on what doesn’t even matter”.
Those words played in my head for the rest of the day. I was so grateful to have heard those words because she was absolutely right! Much like this woman, I too had found myself so focused on things that didn’t even matter.
This moment was a critical reminder of Colossians 3:2 in the amplified which reads:
“Set your mind and keep focused habitually on the things above [the heavenly things], not on things that are on the earth [which have only temporal value].” Colossians 3:2 AMP
Scripture is literally telling us to set our mind on things in heaven/the heavenly region, NOT things pertaining to this earth. Why? Because much like the woman’s comment to me, everything else doesn’t even matter.
Go in peace.
