God Knows My Heart
I pray that as you read this devotional, the Father may touch your heart. I pray that if you have ever said, or are still saying, “God knows my heart,” you will see the error in your ways and truly begin to live the way the Lord has called you to live. In Jesus' name, Amen.
1 Samuel 16:7 (AMP) states:
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
The Hebrew word for "heart" is lebab. According to Strong’s Concordance, lebab is the center of human emotion, thought, will, and moral character. It refers to one’s inner life, intentions, and spiritual state. In other words, the Lord sees and knows your true thoughts, will, intentions, moral character, and spiritual condition.
Let’s break this down further:
Jeremiah 17:9 states, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and is extremely sick; Who can understand it fully and know its secret motives?”
Mark 7:14-16 (AMP):
14 After He called the people to Him again, He began saying to them, “Listen carefully to Me, all of you, and understand what I am saying to you: 15 There is nothing outside a man (such as food) which by going into him can defile him morally or spiritually; but the things which come out of the heart of a man are what defile and dishonor him. 16 If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.”
Mark 7:21-23 (AMP):
“Whatever comes from the heart of a man, that is what defiles and dishonors him. 21 For from within, out of the heart of men, come base and malevolent thoughts, schemes, 22 acts of greed, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, unrestrained conduct, envy and jealousy, slander, profanity, arrogance, self-righteousness, and foolishness (poor judgment). 23 All these evil things come from within and dishonor the man.”
A heart that does not have God at the center is a heart that corrupts the soul. By saying, “God knows my heart,” you are trying to excuse your behavior. Don’t you know that what has come out of you was there all along? For example, if garbage is in your heart, that is what you will produce. The Lord knows your motives and spiritual state very well. Everything that is not of God and dwells in your heart will be the reason you will not have eternal life.
So I urge you, brothers and sisters, to truly change your ways:
20 But you did not learn Christ in this way! 21 If in fact you have really heard Him and have been taught by Him, just as truth is in Jesus (revealed in His life and personified in Him), 22 that regarding your previous way of life, you put off your old self (completely discard your former nature), which is being corrupted through deceitful desires, 23 and be continually renewed in the spirit of your mind (having a fresh, untarnished mental and spiritual attitude), 24 and put on the new self (the regenerated and renewed nature), created in God’s image (godlike), in the righteousness and holiness of the truth (living in a way that expresses to God your gratitude for your salvation).
(Ephesians 4:20-24 AMP).
Beloved, choose the Lord today and ask Him to create in you a clean heart.
God in peace.
