In God We Trust
If you live in the United States, then you know Americans are fanatics for labels. We rank just about everything including race, gender, economic status, clubs/organizations, religion, political parties, and even things so minuscule like the number of followers one may have on their social media platform. If you don’t live in the United States, you might experience some of these things happening in your own country. What is even more alarming is that some people are willing to die behind most of the groups/principles I have listed.
Psalms 39:4-5 (AMP) states, “Lord, let me know my [life’s] end and [to appreciate] the extent of my days; Let me know how frail I am [how transient is my stay here]. 5 Behold, You have made my days as [short as] hand widths, and my lifetime is as nothing in Your sight. Surely every man at his best is a mere breath [a wisp of smoke, a vapor that vanishes]! Selah.
Scripture tells us that our life here on earth is very short. So much so, that David compares life to a vapor. With that in mind, we know that we do not have an interminable amount of time to carry out the Lord’s will on earth. Yet, so many fail, because they get distracted by things that do not matter.
Each and every one of us has a plan that was placed on our lives before we were even conceived (read Jeremiah 1:5). The Lord even said Himself, that the plan He has for us will bring hope and an expected end (read Jeremiah 29:11). Doing the Lord’s will is all that really matters in this life. At the end of this life on earth, we all want to hear, “Well done good and faithful servant” (read Matthew 25:23). Therefore we have to stay grounded on the Lord’s teachings and precepts. Let’s not get bogged down by labels that do nothing for us.
Helpful mottos to go by:
“Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before” (1 Thessalonians 4:11 NLT)
“ He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you. Expect to be just, and to love [ and to diligently practice] kindness (compassion), and to walk humbly with your God [setting aside any overblown sense of importance or self-righteousness]?” (Micah 6:8 AMP)
“Set your mind and keep focused habitually on the things above [the heavenly things], not on things that are on the earth [which have only temporal value].” (Colossians 3:2 AMP)
Remember brothers and sisters, the Lord does not care about your accolades, wealth, whether you're a republican or democrat, what sorority/fraternity you belong to, or the number of followers you have. I urge you to put your hope and trust in God, for He is the only one that can save you.
A verse to meditate on:
“But I do not consider my life as something of value or dear to me, so that I may [with joy] finish my course and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify faithfully of the good news of God’s [precious, undeserved] grace [which makes us free of the guilt of sin and grants us eternal life].” (Acts 20:24 AMP)
Go in peace.
