Rest, But Rest in Me

Have you ever been in a season of your life where life is seemingly beating you up? I mean seriously,  it’s one thing after the other. It drives you nuts! You just want to lay in bed and not respond to anyone. Maybe you just want to disappear. But it displeases the Lord for us to not face our difficulties and our problems. He did not design us to cower when situations happen. However, this does not mean that we are not allowed respite and rest in the midst of difficulty.

Psalm 23 | New International Version | A psalm of David.

1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,

he leads me beside quiet waters,

3 he refreshes my soul.

Facing difficulty head on is not equivalent to burning out and sitting in despair. It is an opportunity for you to find rest in the Lord. The Lord wants you to have rest- not a worldly rest, but a rest in Him. He lies you down in green pastures and leads you beside quiet waters. Can you imagine a more peaceful scenario? This scripture depicts Christ as an all-sufficient shepherd. A shepherd's role is to care for the sheep's needs, which includes shelter, sustenance, safety, and direction. The shepherd leads the sheep to places where they can be nourished and satisfied.

During those trying and testing seasons of your life, find rest in the Lord.

Let’s Pray:

Dear Father,

We come before you giving you thanks for the new mercies and grace you give us each day. We give you thanks Lord because our difficulties only make us stronger and wiser. We repent for finding rest outside of you and come to you with all of our exhaustion. With you Father, we lack nothing. Lay us down in green pastures and lead us beside quiet waters. You are our all-sufficient shepherd who provides us with all that we need to continue on. We praise you in your mighty and Holy name.

Amen
