Seasoned by Fire

Have you ever felt like you just can’t catch a break? I mean trial after trial, circumstance after circumstance and life just won’t cut you any slack? We all have, but Glory be to God that we can always rely on His Word to get us through the toughest of times.

I was sitting on the couch of my childhood home, holding on by what felt like the skin of my teeth when I found myself at Mark 9:49. It reads:

For everyone will be salted with fire”

That word “salted” stood out to me, so naturally I went to the Strong’s Concordance to see what it meant. “Melach” is the Hebrew word for salt, meaning “to pulverize or to season”. Though if you continue reading its historical context, salt was highly valued based on its “preservative and flavor enhancing properties”…

Did you catch that? Let’s break it down…

The Word says that “everyone will be salted by fire”, right? And now we know that salt was highly valued because of its “flavor enhancing” properties, right? So because of this, we can deduce that the fire we go through will season us, thus ENHANCING OUR FLAVOR! Hallelujah!

Salt—> fire—> flavor enhancement

I don’t know about you all, but this makes the fire a tad bit more bearable! Now let’s tie this with Matthew 5:13 which reads,

Matthew 5:13 - “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has lost its taste (purpose), how can it be made salty? It is no longer good for anything, but to be thrown out and walked on by people [when the walkways are wet and slippery]

Friends, we need fire! Without it, how can we be salted? Though the fire may seem endless, know that it is enhancing your flavor. For without flavor, we become useless, no longer salty.

So to the one going through the hard time, let this fire enhance your flavor! Let it make you stronger, better, more resilient; and most importantly, count it all joy!

‭‭James‬ ‭1‬:‭2‬-‭4‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”

Go in peace!
