Worry Not
Do you know the magnitude of the God you serve? If so, why do you worry?
In today’s devotional, keep in mind that the Lord is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). Hallelujah! Now, let’s get into some scripture, starting with Leviticus 25, starting at verse 3. For context, the Lord was explaining to the Israelites, through Moses, the ordinances that they were to keep in promised land.
Leviticus 25:3-4 AMP
“For six years you shall sow your field, and for six years you shall prune your vineyard and gather in its crop. But in the seventh year there shall be a Sabbath of rest for the land, a Sabbath to the Lord; you shall not sow [seed in] your field nor prune your vineyard.”
They were to sow in their field for six years but were NOT to sow in their field the seventh year. Instead, the seventh year was to be a Sabbath in which no work was to be done. You might be asking, what happened in the seventh year? Did they starve?
Of course not! Let’s read verses 18-21.
Leviticus 25:18-21 AMP
(18)“Therefore you shall carry out My statutes and keep my ordinances and do them, so that you may live securely on that land.(19) Then the land will yield its produce, so that you can eat your fill and live securely on it.(20) And if you say, “What are we going to eat in the seventh year if we do not sow [seed] or gather in our crops?(21) Then [this is My answer] I will order My special blessing for you in the sixth year, so that it will produce [sufficient] crops for three years”
Wait, so let’s break this down. If the Lord was saying that they were not to work in the Sabbath year, yet they still had to eat, how were they going to eat? Let’s look at verses 20-21 again.
(20)“And if you say, “What are we going to eat in the seventh year if we do not sow [seed] or gather in our crops?
(21)“Then [this is My answer] I will order My special blessing for you in the sixth year, so that it will produce [sufficient] crops for three years”
I really love this because we see that the Lord understood the practical concerns of the Israelites and had already made provisions for them. It reminds me of Matthew 6:8, which reads:
Matthew 6:8 AMP
“So do not be like them [praying as they do]; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.”
The Lord knew what the Israelites needed before they even asked Him! Therefore provided His special blessing that would sustain them not only for the sixth year, but for THREE whole years!
Friends, the Lord knows what you need before you even ask Him. So worry not, rather do as scripture says and let your requests be made known to God (Philippians 4:6-7). Rest assured that He already knows your needs and has already made provisions for your problems.
Go in peace!
